YouTube Introduces Hype
YouTube has introduced a new feature called "Hype," designed to help emerging creators gain visibility and connect with broader audiences. Announced at the Made on YouTube event in September 2024, Hype allows viewers to actively support videos from creators with fewer than 500,000 subscribers.
When a viewer enjoys a video from an eligible creator, they can "hype" it, signaling strong appreciation beyond a standard like or share. Each user can hype up to three videos per week, and the more hype a video receives, the higher it climbs on a new leaderboard showcasing the top 100 hyped videos of the week. This system aims to spotlight quality content from smaller channels, offering them increased exposure.
For creators, Hype provides a pathway to reach new viewers. Videos that accumulate significant hype points can ascend the leaderboard, attracting attention from audiences who might not have discovered their content otherwise. To ensure fairness, YouTube has implemented a "small creator bonus," applying a point multiplier to channels with fewer subscribers, leveling the playing field and giving all creators a fair chance at recognition.
Looking ahead, YouTube plans to allow fans to purchase additional hypes, unlocking a new revenue stream for creators. This initiative reflects YouTube's commitment to supporting its creator community by providing innovative tools to foster growth and engagement. In summary, YouTube's Hype feature empowers viewers to play an active role in promoting their favorite emerging creators, fostering a more dynamic and supportive community on the platform.
